Funeral Planning

It is a privilege to assist families when a loved one dies in guiding them though the many decisions that need to be made during this painful time in their life. We will help with each area of planning the funeral and vigil, as well as working with the funeral home to create a meaningful celebration of your loved one. Information and assistance with the liturgy planning, selection of readings and music, and coordination of the funeral luncheon are all areas in which we can help.

We also have information on grief support and follow-up when necessary. As a parish, we want to show our love and support to our families who have lost loved ones during the past year by remembering them in a special candle lighting celebration that takes place the beginning of each November.

“Pre-Planning” Your Funeral Mass Celebration

A wonderful gift to your family is pre-planning the liturgy for your funeral celebration. When a loved one dies, a family is forced to make many decisions in only a few days which can be very painful. You can plan now and work with the church staff to choose scripture, music and other parts of the service that are special to you. Funeral Luncheon Ministry

Spirit of Life is known for their willingness to prepare and serve the funeral luncheon to families following the funeral service of their loved one. This is the greatest gift of love and caring we can show our fellow parishioner during such a difficult and sad time in their life.

We have five Funeral Luncheon Teams who rotate on a two week schedule to prepare the funeral lunches. To cover the cost of meat, buns, paper products and custodial services, we ask the funeral family for a suggested donation of $100.00 -$150.00 depending on the size of the funeral.  The team fills in with salads, hot dishes and bars by calling people from our parish who have volunteered to donate food for funerals. If the family wishes to also serve chicken, we will order and pick up, however they would be responsible for that additional cost to the lunch.

I invite you to be a part of this ministry. You may volunteer to serve on one of the teams, to donate a food item for funeral lunches, or both.  This is an important ministry which will eventually affect every family.
